Opening on 12 January 1928, the backstage comedy murder mystery by Elmer Rice and Philip Barry ran for 100 performances at the 48th Street Theatre. An actor is killed on stage, and virtually everyone associated with the little theatre production had a motive. Melodrama is spoofed and comedy triumphs.
