Hornblow, Arthur
(1865-1942)
   The critic was born in Manchester, England, studied in Paris, and came to the United States in 1889 to join the staff of the New York Dramatic Mirror. He was a play reader for A. M. Palmer from 1892 to 1894. From 1901 to 1926, he was the founding editor of Theatre Magazine. He wrote several books on theatre, including A History of the Theatre in America (1919). His son, Arthur Hornblow Jr. (1893-1976) was a successful motion picture producer.
