Hoyt, Henry E.
(1834-1906)
   The scene designer was born in New Hampshire. Working in New York from the early 1880s, he designed and painted sets for the Park Theatre and others. He created the opulently painted settings for Augustin Daly's A Midsummer Night's Dream in 1888. Later, he was head scenic artist at the Metropolitan Opera. In 1896, he was elected president of the American Society of Scenic Painters.
