Wennefer
(fl. 1320 BC)
Also known as Parennefer. High priest of Amun at the temple of Karnak at Thebes. Son of Minhotep and Maia. He served at the end of Dynasty 18 probably in the reigns of Tutankhamunand Horemheb. He was initially wrongly dated to the reign of Ramesses II, but the excavation of his tomb on the west bank of the Nile at Thebes by a German expedition from 1990–1993 revealed his true chronology. His son, Amenemone, served in the army and was later chief of works in the Ramesseum for Ramesses II.
