Ancient Kellis. A Roman town in the Dakhla Oasis that flourished from the 1st to the 4th centuries AD. The main temple of the site was dedicated to the local god Tutu. The area has been excavated by a joint Canadian and Australian team since 1986. Apart from the temple, houses have been uncovered that contained documents in Greek and Coptic, including many associated with the Manichean sect opposed to orthodox Christianity.
