Personal name Ochus. King of Persia and ruler of Egypt. Illegitimate son of Artaxerxes I. He succeeded to the throne after the ephemeral reigns of his brothers Xerxes II and Sogdianus. He then married his half sister, Parysatis. Darius II faced a major revolt in Egypt toward the end of his reign led by Amyrtaeos.
