Nemtyemsaf
The name of two kings of Dynasty 6 who both had brief reigns. The name was wrongly read Antyemsaf by earlier Egyptologists. Nemtyemsaf I (reigned c. 2287–2278 BC), throne name Merenre, was the elder son of Pepy I. He died young and was buried at Saqqara. His pyramid was opened in 1880, and its complex was excavated by a French team from 1971–1973 and in 1980. Nemtyemsaf II (reigned c. 2184–2183 BC) was the son of Pepy II and nephew of his namesake. If a later story reported by Herodotus is correct, he was assassinated after a brief reign and succeeded by his sister-queen, Nitocris.
