(CISL)
The CISL is Italy's second-largest trade union, which was founded in 1950 by the merger of the Federazione Italiana del Lavoro (Italian Federation of Labour) and the Libera Confederazione Generale Italiana dei Lavoratori (Free General Italian Confederation of Labour). Having ties with Roman Catholics and Christian Democrats, this union has been a strong opponent to the largest Italian trade union, the Communist Confederazione Generale Italiana del Lavoro (General Italian Confederation of Labour).
