A regenerated cellulose fiber created from chemically treated materials found in nature, such as cotton fibers or wood chips. Though the fiber was originally invented in 1910, it was not until the Celanese Company commercially produced acetate fiber in 1924 that it became popular for clothing. It is primarily used for linings and special occasion fabrics such as taffeta and satin. It can also be blended with other fibers.
