Comprised of four divisions, Fairchild is best known in the fashion industry as the publisher of Women's Wear Daily. Fairchild also is significant in its role as a publisher of fashion and fashion-related textbooks. It was begun in 1892 in Chicago by Louis Fairchild and moved to New York approximately eight years later. The company was acquired by Advance Publications in 1999.
