Drawing on the catalog experience he gained in the founding of The Popular Club Plan in 1947, founder Arthur Cinader launched J. Crew in 1983 as a catalog company. Cinader went on to expand the concept into a retail establishment of more than 150 stores by the twenty-first century. Identified with a classic and relaxed but fashionable look, J. Crew sells menswear, womenswear, and home goods.
