Born in France, Louboutin interned at Charles Jourdan and Roger Vivier. He spent time designing shoes for a number of couture and ready-to-wear houses in France and Italy and, in 1989, opened his own shoe company. He is best known for a signature collection of pumps called inseparables— shoes that go together as pairs, such as the Love Shoe, which has the letters "LO" on the one heel and "VE" on the other. He is also known for his famous red-soled stilettos, which are celebrity favorites.
