Born in Germany, Sander studied textile engineering before beginning her own label in 1973. Her designs reflect clean lines and she is best known for her attention to well-coordinated pieces. Sander sold the company to Prada and is no longer designing her namesake label. The Belgian designer Raf Simmons took over as creative director as of 2005.
