(WFTU)
This was a conglomeration of trade unions that included Communist and non-Communist labor unions from around the world representing fifty-three countries. In 1949, claiming Communist domination in the union, the United States AFL-CIO, the British TUC, the French FO, the Italian CISL, and the Spanish UGT seceded from the WFTU and created the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions (ICFTU). In 2006, the ICFTU merged with the World Confederation of Labor (WCL) to form the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC).
