Elizabethan period
(1558-1603)
The era in history when court fashion was influenced by both Spanish and French styles although the period is named after the English monarch, Queen Elizabeth. Ruffles at the neck, bodice, and sleeve were of significance for both men and women. Embroidery was embraced as an elaborate detail with gold thread generously interwoven throughout the design.
