Evander m
Scottish (Highland): classical name used as an Anglicized form of Scottish Gaelic Ìomhair (see IVOR (SEE Ivor)). This form is peculiar to the Maclver family, apparently coined to differentiate it from the surname. In classical legend, Evander is the name of the Arcadian hero who founded a city in Italy where Rome was later built. It is a Latin form of Greek Euandros, composed of the elements eu well, good + anēr man (genitive andros).
