Festus
Festus m
1 Latin name meaning ‘firm, steadfast’. This was the name of the Roman procurator of Judea who refused to bow to pressure from the Jews and condemn St Paul to death for his preaching, although he was totally unconvinced by it (Acts 25; 26: 30–2). It was also borne by some early minor saints.
2 Irish: Latinized form of FACHTNA (SEE Fachtna) and FEICHÍN (SEE Feichín).
