Jefferson m
English: transferred use of the surname, originally meaning βson of JEFFREY (SEE Jeffrey)β, and now occasionally selected by fathers themselves named JEFFREY (SEE Jeffrey) or GEOFFREY (SEE Geoffrey). It has sometimes been used in honour of the American president Thomas Jefferson (1743β1826; president 1801β9), who was principally responsible for the text of the Declaration of Independence, and who is admired as a scientist, architect, and thinker as well as a statesman.
