Lambert m
English, French, German, and Dutch: of Germanic origin, composed of the elements land land, territory + beorht famous. It was introduced to Britain by the Normans. Its frequency in Britain in the later Middle Ages, however, was mainly due to its popularity among immigrants from the Low Countries (who came to England in connection with the cloth trade). St Lambert of Maastricht was a 7th-century saint who aided St Willibrord in his evangelical work.
