Italian: from the Greek personal name Nestōr, possibly a derivative of nostos homecoming. In Homer's Iliad, Nestor is one of the leaders of the Greeks at Troy, the aged but still vigorous king of Pylos. The name had some currency among early Christians and was borne by several early martyrs.
