Spanish: from the Late Latin name Pastōr ‘shepherd’, adopted by early Christians because of the parable of the Good Shepherd caring for his flock. St Pastor was a nine-year-old boy martyred at Alcalá at the beginning of the 4th century, together with his thirteen-year-old brother Justus.
