Welsh: traditional name derived from the Old Celtic form Teutorix, composed of elements meaning ‘people, tribe’ + ‘ruler, king’. The name has been widely believed to be a Welsh form of THEODORE (SEE Theodore), but there is in fact no connection between the two names.
