Dawn f
English: from the vocabulary word for daybreak, no doubt originally bestowed because of the connotations of freshness and purity of this time of day. It may have originated as a vernacular translation of AURORA (SEE Aurora). According to Dunkling, it was first used in 1928, after which it quickly became popular. Twin girls are sometimes given the names Dawn and EVE (SEE Eve), although the latter name does not in fact have anything to do with the time of day.
