Jo f, m
English: usually a female name, a short form of JOANNA (SEE Joanna), JOANNE (SEE Joanne), JODY (SEE Jody), or JOSEPHINE (SEE Josephine), sometimes used in combination with other names, for example Nancy Jo and Jo Anne (see JOANNE (SEE Joanne)). Its popularity as a female name was influenced by the character of Jo March in Louisa M. Alcott's Little Women (1868). Occasionally it is a male name, a variant of JOE (SEE Joe).
Elaborated female form: Scottish (Highland): Joina (three syllables).
