Nora f
English, Irish, Scottish and Scandinavian: short form of names such as Eleonara (see ELEANOR (SEE Eleanor)), Honora (see HONOUR (SEE Honour)), and LEONORA (SEE Leonora). Although these are not Gaelic in origin, Nora (Gaelic NĂ³ra) was particularly associated with Ireland at one time. In the Scottish Highlands it is used as a feminine form of NORMAN (SEE Norman). In Scandinavia the name is known particularly as that borne by the heroine of Henrik Ibsen's play A Doll's House.
Variant: Norah.
