Prince
Prince m
English: originally a nickname from the royal title. The Old French title prince (Latin princeps, from prīmus first + capere to take, i.e. one who took the first place) was introduced to Britain by the Normans; before the Conquest young members of the royal house had been known as æðelingas (from Old English æðel noble). As a given name, Prince is common among Blacks in America; it was often bestowed on slaves with cruel irony, but has been perpetuated by their descendants with pride.
