Truman m
English: in the main, a transferred use of the surname. This is in part of English origin, representing a nickname derived from Old English trēowe true, trusty + mann man, but in America it is more commonly an Anglicized version of the German cognate Treumann. The favourable meaning of the elements has no doubt influenced its choice as a given name to some extent. A further possible influence may have been the fame of Harry S. Truman (1884–1972), president of the United States (1945–52), but the given name was in use before he became president.
Variant: Trueman.
