Dutch traveler and explorer. Pomp came from the town of Enkhuizen, Holland. Under the Portuguese, he was a member of the fleet that sailed to Goa, In dia, and from there he made two trips to Japan and China. His ad ventures as the first Dutchman to visit China were published by car tographer Lucas Jansz Waghenaer in his Thresoor der zeevaerdt (1592). In 1598, Pomp took part in the expedition under the direction of Jacques Mahu (d. 1598) and Simon de Cordes (d. 1599), via the Strait of Magellan; as a result, he lived in Spanish captivity in Lima, Peru, from 1599 until 1603.
