Shavit, Shabtai
(1943- )
   Born in Nesher near Haifa, he served in the Israel Defense Forces' elite Sayeret Matkal (General Staff Reconnaissance Unit) and joined the Mossad in 1964, becoming its head in 1989. He ended his 32-year career on 2 June 1996. He later served as adviser to the Israeli National Security Council and chaired the International Policy Institute for Counter-Terrorism at the Interdisciplinary Center-Herzliya.
