Antinaturalism (hanshizen shugi) developed in opposition to the naturalism of Shimazaki Toson and Tayama Katai. Seen as a progression of the Meiji period yoyuha (leisure school) founded by Masaoka Shiki, Mori Ogai, and Natsume Soseki, antinaturalism played a subsequent role in the Subaru (Pleiades) and Mita Bungaku (Mita Literature) movements and the writings of Tanizaki Jun’ichiro.
