Morimoto Kaoru was a playwright, actor, director, and translator. He was born in Osaka and graduated in English literature from Tokyo University. While still in high school, he wrote his first one-act play, Damu nite (At the Dam, ca. 1925). His most well-known play was Onna no issho (1945; tr. A Woman’s Life, 1961). Morimoto suffered from tuberculosis in high school and had a relapse during World War II. He wrote a second version of Onna no issho just before dying.
