Israeli educator and lexicographer. He was born in Belorussia and emigrated to Palestine in 1887. He was a co-founder of the first Hebrew Teachers' Assocation in Palestine, and was one of the pioneers of the Ivrit be-Ivrit melhod of teaching Hebrew. He wrote manuals on the study of Hebrew, Jewish history, natural sciences, and the geography of Palestine, and translated classical literature into Hebrew. He also published several dictionaries, including the Dictionary of the Hebrew Language.
