(1879-1970)
Israeli Zionist leader and author of Polish origin. He was born in Warsaw, where he later edited several newspapers. During World War I he lived in St Petersburg, but he returned to Warsaw, where he became the leader of Polish Zionism. In 1919 he was elected to the Sejm. In 1933 he became a member of the executive of the Jewish Agency and settled in Palestine. As a representative of the General Zionist Party, he was minister of the interior in 1948-9. He published studies on Polish and Zionist history.
