Haan, Jacob Israel de
(1881-1924)
   Dutch poet and Orthodox leader. Born in Smilde, he initially rejected his Jewish background, but later reverted to an Orthodox lifestyle. In 1919 he left Holland for Palestine, abandoning his non-Jewish wife. He became a member of the Orthodox Agudat-Israel party and wrote articles for the Dutch and British Press. He was later murdered by opponents.
