Israelite high priest (37-36 BCE, and again in 34 BCE). He was born in Egypt. He was appointed high priest by Herod who passed over Aristobulus III, the brother of Mariamne. Owning to the protests of Alexandra and Mariamne, Herod deposed Hanamel and appointed Aristobulus III. But after Aristobulus was murdered, Hanamel was restored to office.
