Harkavy, Albert
(1835-1919)
   Russian orientalist. He was born in Belorussia. He became head of the department of Jewish literature and oriental manuscripts at the Imperial Library in St Petersburg in 1877. He published studies of the Khazars, the Karaites, and the history and languages of Russian Jewry. His writings on the ancient Jewish tombstones in the Crimea exposed the fabrications of Abraham Firkovich.
