German society leader, wife of Marcus Herz. She held a salon in her home in Berlin which attracted many of the leading figures in society; both Moses Mendelssohn and Solomon Maimon were frequent guests. She belonged to the Tugenbund, a youth group dedicated to encouraging ethical ideals. In 1817 she was baptized through the influence of Friedrich Schleiermacher.
