Spanish rabbi and halakhic authority. He was born in Barcelona. After the persecution of the Jews in 1391, he left Spain and settled in Algiers, where he served as a rabbi. He wrote numerous responsa, which exercised considerable influence on later halakhah and contain information about popular customs in Spain and North Africa. He also wrote commentaries on talmudic tractates and the Pentateuch, as well as poetry.
