Kollek, Theodor
(b. 1911)
   Israeli politician. He was born in Vienna. In 1934 he emigrated to Palestine, where he became a member of kibbutz En Gev. From 1940 to 1947 he served in the political department of the Jewish Agency. He then (1947-8) represented the Haganah in the US and in 1951-2 served as Israel's minister pleni-potentiary in Washington. He was director of the Israeli prime minister's office from 1952 to 1964, and chairman of the Israel Government Tourist Corporation from 1956 to 1964. In 1965 he was elected Mayor of Jeruslaem.
