Lafer, Horacio
(1893-1965)
   Brazilian politician. Born in Sao Paulo, he studied economics, philosophy and law before entering industry and politics. He worked with the Klabin firm which developed the cellulose and paper industry in Brazil. He founded the Brazilian National Economic Development Bank and served as governor of the World Bank. In 1928 he was the Brazilian delegate to the League of Nations, and was elected to the federal chamber of deputies. In 1951 he was appointed minister of finance in Brazil; subsequently he became foreign minister.
