Laski, Harold
(1893-1950)
   British political scientist. Born in Manchester, he studied at University College, London and at Oxford. He worked as a journalist on the Labour newspaper Daily Herald. He taught at McGill University and then at Harvard. Eventually he returned to Britain and became a professor at the London School of Economics. He was invited to become president of Brandeis University, but refused since he believed it was important for him to remain in Britain. His works include The Problem of Sovereignty, Authority in the Modern State, The Foundations of Sovereignty, A Grammar of Politics, The State in Theory and Practice, Parliamentary Government in England.
