French writer. He was born in Nimes. He lived in Paris, where he was involved in Jewish affairs and worked on a number of Jewish periodicals. In Anti-Semitism, its History and Causeshe argued that anti-Semitism could help to bring about the advent of socialism by teaching hatred of Jewish capitalism. After the Dreyfus affair he changed his views.
