Israeli activist and politician, leader of the Agudat Israel movement. He was born in Gora, Poland. He served in various offices in Agudat Israel. In 1940 he settled in Palestine, where he was active in rescue operations to help Jews escape from Nazi-controlled Europe. He was appointed minister of social welfare in the first Knesset. In 1954 he became president of the World Actions Committee and chairman of the World Executive of Agudat Israel.
