Matter, Henry
(1864-1925)
   American rabbi and scholar. He was born in Bonze, Galicia. He became the librarian of the Jewish community in Berlin. In 1900 he went to the US, where he taught medieval Jewish philosophy, the Bible, and rabbinic law and literature at the Hebrew Union College, and served as the rabbi of Shearith Israel Congregation in Cincinnai. In 1909 he became a professor of talmudic literature at Dropsie College. His writings include Saadia Gaon: His Life and Works.
