Italian historian. He was born in Caraglio. He taught in Rome, Turin, Pisa, London and Chicago. He wrote studies about ancient history, the Maccabees and Judaica, and the history of the Second Temple period. His publications include Alien Wisdom: The Limits of Hellenisation.
