American Reform scholar, of Galician birth. He was a rabbi in Rakonitz, Bohemia, and later professor of Jewish philosophy at the Veitel-Heine-Ephraimschen Lehrenstalt in Berlin. In 1907 he became professor of philosophy at the Hebrew Union College. His writings include a History of Jewish Philosophy and Essays in Jewish Philosophy.
