Avni, Ahron
(1906-51)
   Israeli painter. Born in the Ukraine, he emigrated to Palestine in 1925. In 1936 he founded the Histadrut Seminary for Painting and Sculpture in Tel Aviv, of which he was director until his death. He painted members of the Haganah and later soldiers on the battlefield during the Israeli War of Independence.
