(1890-1957)
American author. He was born in New York, where he worked as a social worker from 1908 to 1920. An advocate of Jewish assimilation, he saw no virtue in Jewish immigrant life. His novels chiefly concern the Jewish immigrant generation of the 1880-1914 period and portray Jewish types in an unsympathetic light.
