Pevsner, Nikolaus
(1902-83)
   British art historian, of German origin. Born in Leipzig, he became keeper of the Dresden Art Gallery, and later taught at the University of Gottingen. In 1934 he fled to England. He was professor of fine art at Cambridge, and later professor of the history of art at Birkebeck College, London. His works include Outline of European Architecture, Pioneers of Modern Design: From William Morris to Walter Gropius, Mannerism to Romanticism and Sources of Modern Art. He also edited the Buildings of England.
