Canadian Yiddish poet and essayist, of Galician origin. He was born in Radymno, eastern Galicia. He travelled widely, and in Warsaw during the 1920s he was a member of the poetic group known as Khalyastre. In 1941 he settled in Montreal, though he spent 1953-6 in Israel. In addition to poetry, he published a three-volume biographical work on Yiddish literary figures.
